How do you breed Altum Angels?
Very acidic, soft water is required to breed Altums. Growing up a group of 6 young Altum generally has a good change of finding a breeding pair. Once the pair have bonded, spawning may begin. If you find that the spawns are being eaten by the parents, you may have to artifically raise the fry in a small tank.

Pterophyllum altum, also referred to as the altum angelfish, deep angelfish, or Orinoco angelfish, occurs strictly in the Orinoco River Basin and the Upper Rio Negro watershed in Southern Venezuela, Southeastern Colombia and extreme Northern Brazil.

During the rainy season, the area is covered by water. It then forms the natural spawning grounds of the altum angelfish. We thus examined this biotope in a very attentive way, in the search of data transposable to the aquarium and which could possibly appear paramount for maintenance.
Where was the first angelfish found?
It is in Rio Atabapo, which marks the border between Colombia and Venezuela and which is emptied later into the Rio Orinoco, that Chaffanjon discovered the first angelfish. This one was described in 1903 by Pellegrin, and named Pterophyllum altum.
When will the Altums be available?
The Altums were first discovered, described and photographed by Heiko Bleher in February 2019. They show a beautiful tall body shape and a strong nasal kink as well as a lot of red. Do angelfish fight for territory?
