There is a 4-month window for when the 6-month reassessment needs to be done; so the CANS and PSC-35 reassessment can be completed anytime between 4- and 8-months. Given this timeframe, school-based services should be able to do the reassessment CANS before or after the youth is on their summer vacation.

A provider can access the CANS training at www.canstraining.com. The Texas CANS Comprehensive 2.0 (Child Welfare) is the appropriate version to complete your required certification. The training cost is $12.

Who is required to complete a cans?
Individuals who complete or rate a CANS are required to be trained and certified in its use. Caseworkers, Youth Justice workers, Supervisors, CST workers and anyone scoring or approving a CANS for children who are placed in out-of-home care must complete the training and become certified in the CANS Tool.
